A Frozen Finish
The Time Bandit becomes trapped in the middle of the ice pack. It's the finale for the greenhorns: some have succeeded in their quests to become Bering Sea crab fisherman, others won't be coming back. The 2007 opilio crab tally's in and a winner declared. After a long and difficult crab fishing season, the Northwestern enjoys a sweet homecoming with friends and family back in Seattle.
Ice and Open Water
The promise of a great catch outweighs the dangerous risks faced by the opilio crab fishing vessels. The Farwest Leader attempts to survive the loss of one engine, a pot caught underneath the boat and tension to garner tank-swelling numbers. The Time Bandit enjoys unseasonably calm weather and unprecedented (600-700/pot) catches. However, when the weather drastically changes, the boat is caught in a crippling ice pack on their journey back to the harbor. The Northwestern is on the crab but they struggle to stay ahead of the massive ice pack. Greenhorn Jake is beaten down by his mates as he tries to endure the challenges thrown his way, including eating the heart of a live cod. The Cornelia Marie is on the crab as well. Captain Phil Harris' sons get a chance to expand their seafaring duties. Jake challenges the old man to a rematch of last season's coiling contest while Josh throws the hook for the first time with less than stellar results.
Trials of the Greenhorns
Greenhorns are put to the test as the Bering Sea's harsh winter weather deteriorates. Guy, the Wizard 'horn, has only worked a mere three days and is already faltering. On the Northwestern and Cornelia Marie greenhorns step up to prove their worth by working through broken bones and icy decks without complaint. Poor fishing and mechanical breakdowns plague the Farwest Leader while legal issues keep the Time Bandit boys marooned in port. The fishing continues ...
Crossing the Line
Busted buoys, broken pots and a blown engine have put the Northwestern more than a week behind schedule. Captain Sig hopes Lady Luck will smile upon him as he drops all of his gear far north of the rest of the fleet. Northwestern greenhorn Jake just wants to be one of the guys, but when he pranks deck boss Edgar, he might have gone too far.
A monster storm blows through the Time Bandit and Cornelia Marie's grounds. Both boats fish through the onslaught, and it pays off for the Cornelia Marie with decent numbers. The Time Bandit isn't so fortunate; a miserable 80-mile string comes up weak, and a line wrapped around their prop has them running on only one engine.
A double change of guard takes place on the Wizard: Captain Keith Colburn and greenhorn Nick both head south. Taking Keith's place as skipper is brother Monty, and taking Nick's place is first-time fisherman Guy. Guy is psyched to be on the Wizard, but after a day of fishing he's not quite sure he made the right decision. On the Farwest Leader, engineer Chilly blows his stack over a mistake made by deckhand John Mavar. John ignores Chilly's verbal onslaught and attempts to redeem himself when he's given a chance at throwing the hook.
